A Brief History:
From EMA to EMITS to EMA EMITS College Philippines………
First it was born in 1945 as Eastern Mindoro Academy or EMA. It was a small dream of Atty. Federico Semilla to give accessible education to the poor people of Pinamalayan. The school building was only a small house situated where the Municipal Park is now. Later, the school was transferred to its present location with only a modest two -story house for a building. That old building is still standing at present and is called Maxima Building, named after the wife of Atty. Federico Semilla.
In 1985, the aging Federico Semilla relinquished the administration of EMA to his youngest son, the late Marcial Semilla. Sir Marcial decided to name the school Eastern Mindoro Institute of Technology and Sciences or EMITS. The school remained under the supervision of Sir Marcial until his youngest son, Sir Sheridan Semilla took the headship of EMITS.
Due to the clamor of the alumni of EMA, the original name of the school, the Board of Trustees in January of 2011 finally decided to hear their clamor to resurrect the name of their Alma Mater. The name was changed to EMA EMITS College Philippines, a combination of the past and the present that will be the future of the school that has now grown beyond the expectation of the once dreamer of just a small dream-Sir Federico Semilla.
In a simple ceremony witnessed by well-known EMAnians and EMITians, EMA was married to EMITS. And the two gians became one to the delight of both alumni of the two school.
Though names were changed to become what it is now, the vision of the school remained the same-to provide quality, relevant and caring education to all. Whatever will be its name, it will continue to be guided by its core values-Love , faith and justice.
As a school, EMA EMITS College Philippines will continue to pride itself with its graduates who have joined the world’s work-force. It will continue to change lives by nourishing the inquisitive minds of the youth. It will forever shape the character of the populace by molding the values of the tender hearts.
